There are ten 'shelves' with ten 'books' on each. Each 'book' corresponds to a single topic. This topic is displayed under the bottom 'shelf' when the mouse pointer is on a 'book'.
The text on the left of each 'shelf' is a description of the subject area covered by the 'books' on that shelf.
Normal progression in the tutorial (and in the test) is to start at the left and work to the right, though the particular 'shelf' is chosen at random each time a new question topic is chosen.
The state of the 'books' are coded to indicate the following:
Closed and upright with a blue cover: This 'book' has yet to be viewed by the current user.
Closed and lying flat with a red cover: This 'book' has been viewed by the current user.
Open: This 'book' is the position on that shelf of the current users tutorial. If it has a blue cover, it has yet to be looked at, where as it will have a red cover if it has been viewed by the current user.
On each 'shelf' there is one 'book' that has a green label on the 'shelf' underneath. This indicates the position on that 'shelf' reached in the test by the current user.
The position of the 'open book' can be changed by clicking on another 'book' on the same shelf. The tutorial will then use this as a new starting point for that 'shelf'.
The first time the tutorial is used, the 'open books' are positioned above the green labels.
At the end of each shelf is a 'tick' or a 'cross'. This indicates whether this shelf is to be included in the tutorial (a 'tick') or not (a 'cross'). Simply click on the 'tick' or 'cross' to change it.
The 'Exit' button saves the current tutorial set up (as displayed) ready for next time and goes back to the main menu.
The 'Begin' button starts (or continues) the tutorial using the set up displayed. This consists of trying the same questions as appear in the 'Test' but with help.
Help in answering the questions is given automatically if the question is answered incorrectly, or can be requested by clicking on the 'Help' button.
Clicking on the 'Break' button ends the tutorial session and saves the current tutorial position ready for the next session.
